LibreOffice - it's installed, but I use Office 2011. Now I just look out the window.įree Memory - uselessly unnecessary utility.īartender - nope, it didn't impress me much.īattery Health Monitor - nope, I'm OK with System Profiler.įolder Brander - didn't have any need for it. SuperDuper! - owned it since 1.0, but prefer CCC and Disk Utility.ĬlipMenu - no, I use Keyboard Maestro and TextExpander. Total Finder - don't use because I am running Yosemite.ĬopyPaste Pro - been with it since OS 7.x. I don't use cloud storage - too expensive. Let's examine the shareware stuff:ĭefault Folder - since the day it was version 1.0. I'm always excited to hear that I have been of help to someone here over many years. #Folderbrander no longer woring upgradeI like the idea about pointing iTunes to the other HD!! Thanks.Īs to underestimating drive size (may I $ay Drive $ize): Kappy - do you remember March 2013? There were not SSD drives larger than 500gb!! Things change fast! Hey even today Apple sells brandy-new MacBook Airs with 128 gb SSD drives - ridicules!! (As is a 16 gb iPhone 6!!) - So no, I planned way ahead! I've got a very fast 5 year old Core-duo 2 MBP with 2 HD's and FW800 and 1 tb of storage which cost me less than $300/year + the SSD - Sure I'm ready to upgrade - but for me it will be a downgrade! Can't get a new retina MBP with 2 SSD's (and there's not optical drive to remove!) So yeah, I was ready to move to a new model - but neither the software nor the hardware has given me much reason to date… I'm eagerly waiting to sell some of my Apple shares to purchase a new MBP - let's see what comes out this summer!! I actually have that partitioned to 450 gb and 50 gb and have Yosemite on the 50 gb. I have another 500 gb (non-SSD) drive in the MBP - so I do have a tb total. 1989? That means you have been using Macs 2 years longer than I have. ![]() You're still anchored by an external drive. People want small and light but the downside to no longer having a proper desktop is frankly nobody has the drive capacity any longer for all the iTunes stuff they buy. If you really are hurting for space then get an external drive for your iTunes library. The re-download thing is a convenience, not a given and Apple's own official statement says you should back up in case something is no longer available in the Store. #Folderbrander no longer woring moviePolicy so far as I understand it is if a developer (or music artist, or movie distributor) pulls something from the iTunes Store then it is gone for good, even for re-downloading. That said, if you manually sync then I don't think they get removed from your device if they aren't right there in the iTunes library. Apps you are using should nominally continue to be part of the library you are syncing. ![]() #Folderbrander no longer woring archiveOnes that you are not using(1600-1000 = 600) can go on an archive drive. Thoughts on things so far and people can correct me if I am flat out wrong. I'll start by saying I have zero apps, zero iTunes purchases, have only synced an iPod nano for my niece once back in 2003, but I have been reading this forum regularly for over a decade so I have kind of picked up a feel for things. ![]()
